I’ll add to this as I remember / discover more.
Artists
Gustav Klimt
The kind of beauty that we need more of.
The Kiss, 1903
Death And Life, 1908
Judith and the Head of Holofernes, 1901
Love, 1895
René Magritte
The Lovers II, 1928
Attempting the Impossible, 1928
The Human Condition II, 1935
We see it [the world] as being outside ourselves, although it is only a mental representation of it that we experience inside ourselves. In the same way we sometimes situate in the past a thing which is happening in the present. Time and space thus lose that unrefined meaning which is the only one everyday experience takes into account.
Caravaggio
What can I say? I’m a sucker for chiaroscuro.
He’s the master of realism. Best seen in an Italian church.
Crucifixion of Saint Peter, 1601
The Calling of Saint Matthew, 1600
Hieronymus Bosch
Freaky little paintings.
The Garden of Earthly Delights, 1490-1500
El Greco
So stylistic! A counterpoint to Caravaggio.
Saint Jerome as Scholar, ca. 1610
Mark Rothko
You really need to see these in person. Stand two metres from the painting and let it fill your field of view.
Light Red Over Black, 1957
Untitled (Green on Blue), 1956
Francis Bacon
Haunting studies of the flesh.
I was confused for quite a long time because I thought he was the same person as Sir Francis Bacon, one of the founders of the scientific method.
These are the least disturbing paintings of his that I still like.
Study of a dog, 1952
Painting, 1946
Study for Bullfight I, 1971
This sold for $56,250 in 2010. That’s doable.
Francisco Goya
This guy was prolific.
The Colossus, after 1808
Saturn Devouring His Son, 1819-1823
Warning: graphic
Genius. Horrific, yes, but genius.
Interestingly not the only paintings he made about cannibalism.
The Dog, 1920-1923
Fight with Cudgels, 1920-1923
It’s probably not a coincidence that these three are from the same four years.
Zdzisław Beksiński
They’re all terrifying. I’d encourage you to seek out his other work if you like these, but don’t say I didn’t warn you.
Open Sky
This quite literally the only painting of his that is possibly at all upbeat. The rest instil terror within me. I’m scared to scroll his WikiArt page.
Untitled
Actually this one’s not too bad. SCP vibes.
Again, if you like these, check out his WikiArt.

Le Remords, Louis Baader
Crisper, but washed out:
Better colours, but less clear:

This painting is huge. Amazing to see in person.
I played Agamemnon in a school production of the Oresteia back in Year 10. Good times.
Panneau d’Elégante, Georges de Feure
